SCHOOL TEACHERS' BURDENS.
■■ —t ■ A PROTEST. (By Telegraph—Preea Association.) Dunedln, July 7. The following resolution was passed) by the Dnnedin and Suburban Head learners' Association at a meeting to-night, fluid it was resolved to send copies of it to the Minister, M.P.'s, education boards, education institutes, and head teachers' associations:—"This association has learned with, great disappointment of the statement of the Minister for Education that it was not the intention to introduce any legislation this session witlhi regard to ediuoa/tion. Also, it is with the greatest surprise that the association has learned of the statement of the Minister that matters are going on satisfactorily in this Department The urgent for increased salary is evidenced by the difficulty every education board is litbooiring under in filling vacancies with certificated: teadhers, The instability of teachers' salaries as based on the average attendance Ss ooatinually in evidoMo. The impossibility, under present conditions, of bettering thoir positions after years of service, is o deplorable discouragement to a large numbor of teachers. In this connection payment of many teachers reminds ono of the wages received dn swemted industries. Softools are understaffed, and 1 in large schools especially tho work of in any teachers ia burdensome owing to the large classes under their _ control. In the opinion of this association th'eso and other mattors in connection with out education system demand tho immediate and serious attention of Parliament."
