MERELY BANK GOSSIP
Who will be manager of the team for California? This is a question that is arousing much interest at the present moment. . Twomoy, who was missing from his Usual place in the Melrose rearguard last "week, had injured his hand at work the day previous. At the time of writing it is not certain that he will bo well enough to play to-day. Wellington will be without some of their best men again to-day. M'Nab and M'Kay will ba unable tc play, and Bridge 'is a doubtful starter. This will mean the temporary promotion of three juniors. V/airoa Sub-Union and Napier SubUnion try conclusions at Napier to-day, and the match will decide who are the best fifteen to represent _ Hawke's Bay against Wellington later in the month. Tho unfortunate acoident which happened to Doell on Saturday will_ probably prevent this player from ' again taking the field, and Canterbury's football will suffer in consequence (says the "Weekly Press"). With Doell out of the way, the selection of the full-back indeed, becomes interesting. C. R. Smith, of Merivale, and J. Bain, of Old Boys, mentioned as possibilities for tho position, and though neither of these players is to be compared with Doell, either would be capable of a satisfactory game.
