MARQUIS AND ACTRESS.

. .•£50,000. FOR BREACH OF PROMISE. By TeleKraph—Presa Association—Copyright London, July 2. In the King's Bench Division of the High Court of Justice, the hearing of the breach of promise action by Miss Daisy Markham, the well-known actress,' against the Marquis of Northampton, was concluded. The Marquis's counsel admitted that a promise of marriage had been made when his client was Lord Compton. The latter had sought his father's consent, but the late Marquis absolutely prohibited the marriage, and the son had then, solemnly engaged not to marry Miss Markham. The case was settled by the Marquis paying damages.
