At the Police Court to-day, Win Hughes and John Agnew were chargec tho,t, being Europeans, they _ ontoret Mokonui Island 011 March 27 in searcl jr pursuit of mutton birds, and tlia they did take mutton birds from tin island. Tho action was takon by thi Lands Department, for whpm Mr. Ii MacAlister appeared. /. Counsel stated that trouble had ai'isei 3n tho islands'owing to Europeans visit ing them and taking mutton birds, tin island beiijg specially reserved for Nativ mutton-birders. Defendants pleaded that tlioy were sen to tho island by a Native, who (in evi ilence) stated that 110 was entitled to 1 share of the birds. Each defendant was fined ten shilling! Cairol C. liajiscn, also nl European was similarly charged.
