On Monday night a social in honour of the occasion was held in the Masonic Hall, and suitable addresses were delivered by the president, the local minister, Rev. Mr. Coatsworth, and the Revs Boyes (Palmerston) and Cottom (Otaki). A local flaxmill employee is reported to have had a miraculous escape from a frightful accident recently.
