NATIONAL PROVIDENT FUND.
SECOND ANNUAL REPORT. The second annual report of the National Provident Fund Board (covering the year 1912) shows that at the end of last year there were 2660 contributors (as against 550 at tho end of 1911), and That the amount of the fund stood at .810,038 (as compared with .£1826 at the end of 1911). The annual rate of contribution payable increased during the year from .£3171 to ,£11,726, at tho end of jlarch last the total applications from all sources numbered over 4000. The average weekly contribution per member since the lecturing campaign began grodually fell from 2?. 3d. to Is. Bd. per week, this being mainly due to a larger proportion of younger lives being enrolled. During last year maternity ■ grants. totalling <£171,' were claimed.. The ratio of expenses last year ■ was 28 per cent of the contribution income as compared with 55 per cent in 1911,
