A little after 9 o'clock last. night a *efious tire broke out in the residence, of ; Mr..vAllnn M'Guire, Dullerin Street. .The | fireJ.wns- caused -by a : spark from, an open fire in- .the dining-room -settihg alight to a settee. . Mr. M'Guire w'aS ; in tho dining-room and attempted to extinguish'the outbreak. Ho was not successful, and a,coll was sent-to tho,Central ind Newtown Fire Stations. When'.tho brigades 'arrived tho fire had gained : : a irfrong hold, the. flames almost enveloping the building. Strenuous efforts were made to suppress the conflagration, and after nearly two. hours' work the flames wire got- in'hand. By-this' tjinie the building was badly damaged, as also were the-con-tents. ' 'The building was-a -two-story structure containing thirteen rooms. ■ --■< • The insurance on the building was £1300 in, the Victoria. Office,: and the contents were insured for .£IOOO with the New Zealand Insurance Company. . - ." .
