Vice-Regal. His Excellency the Governor will r<v ceivo on address from the Methodist Union Conference at 11 a.m. to-day. At 3.30 p.m. lie will officiate at the opening of the Wellington Pigeon, Poultry, and Canary Association's show, and in the evening he will attend the Orphans Club's concert at tho Town Hall, where ho will present tho cadet medals. To-morrow evening his Excellency, accompanied by some members of his staff, will attend the boxing tourney at the Town Hall. His Excellency will preside at a meeting to be held in the Masonic Hall on Saturday 'night, in connection with tho various social works of the Anglican Church in the diocese of Wellington. 'On Monday night Lord Liverpool will attend tho Wellington Philosophical Society's meeting, and present Professor Easterfield with the Hector medal. Mr. C. Blenkhorn, a solicitor of the Supreme Court, was yesterday admitted as a barrister by his Honour the Chief Justice (Sir Robert Stout). Mr. H. T. Von Haast appeared as counsel.. The Rev. S. Lawry, of Christohuroh, president of tlia Methodist Union Conference, arrived from Napier by last evening's express. Ho is staying with tho Rev. J. Dawson. 'Mr. E. W. Alison, of Auckland, is a visitor to Wellington. Mr. D. Keir was presented yesterday by Sir. Paine, on behalf of tho members of tho Wellington Smokers' Debating Club, with a memento in recognition of .his services to the club as chairman. Mr. J. D. Avery, clerk of tho Eastbourne Borough Council, is at present in .1 Blenheim, attending the marriage of his brother, Mr. Harry Avery (formerly a representative Rugby player for ton), which is to .take place thereto-day. Mi'. S. Foster Hunt, of Providence, Rhode Island, U.S.A., is ' a visitor, to Wellington. ' At a smoke concert on Monday evening, tho staff of the Commercial Union Assurance Company took farewell of two of its members, Mr. J. R. Callonder (wlio is joining tho 6taif of tho Royal Exchange Insurance Company), and Mr. Atmore, who is taking up tho stud-? of tho law. The gathering was presided over by the accountant of tho Wellington office, Mr. F. Hawk. .Sir C. C. Bo.wen. ippcaHWiftf ith? Legislative Council, arrives by from the south this morning. Sir Geo. Clifford is a passenger from the south by tho Maori this morning. Dr. Williams'is a passenger -by- tho same vessel. Mr. Geo. Joachim, general manager of tho Westport Coal Company arrives- in Wellington from the south this, morning. Mr. W. H. Triggs, editor of the Christchurch "Press," left Lyttelton for Wellington by thu Maori last evening. Messrs.' Davey, Forbes, Smith, Isitt, and F. H. Smith, M.P.'s, arrive in Wellington from the south by the Maori this morning. The Hon. T. Fergus is also a passenger by the same steamer. In connection with tho, running of the Manawatu suburban trains to Lambton Station, Tawa Flat, Porirua, Plimmerton, and Pahautanui, public meetings will be held on Thursday, July 3. at tho school, Tawa Flat, and the hall. Porirua, and on Saturday, July 5, at the school, Plimmerton, and at. the hall, Pahautanui, with the object of enlisting the co-operation of residents. The following motion was placed on tho records of tho Wellington Ministers' Association at their annual meeting"That the Wellington Ministers' Association regrets to hear of tho departure of tho Rev. R. Inglis, of Ivhandallah, through his acceptance of a call to Knox Church, Parnull. Whilst reserving his main strength for bringing to a high state of efficiency the work ot his own charge, Mr. Inglis lias always been ready to bear his share of itlie work of this association, and the benefit of his wide experience and sound judgment have ever been at the disposal ot any effort on behalf of the moral and spiritual benefit of the community, and of tho well-being of the 'Church. Especially would wo express our appreciation of his strenuous advocacy of the proper observance of the Lord's Day tliroughout the Dominion. Wo assure Mr. Inglis of our best washes for his continued success in his new sphere of labour at Aucklaud." Mr. A. Hobson, chemist, who is to leave for Napier to-day, was tho recipient of a presentation yesterday from the Pharmaceutical Association, tho Pharmacy Board, tho chemists of Wellington, and tho wholesale drug warehouses. Mr. Hobson is entering into business in Napier, having disposed of, his Wellington business to Mr. J. E. Tristram.
