MAGISTRATE'S COURT.

SHOP THIEF. CAUGHT AT THE TILL. , A plea of guilty was entered by Joseph Johnson, who was charged at the Magistrate's Court yesterday before Mr. W. 6. liiddell, S.M., with having attempted ■ to steal £2 10s. from William Jenkinson. Inspector Hendrey stated' that Mr. JenkinSon was a shop-keeper, and that on Saturday evening ho heard his till ring, and on looking into tho shop saw Johnson on the counter with his liand in the till. Johnson, attempted to get away, but the shop-keeper caught him. Johnson was sentenced to fourteen days' imprisonment. THE PEOPLE'S MILK. Several milk vendors were proceeded against on informations to the eifect that they had sold adulterated milk. A charge against F. Green was dismissed because tho .Court held that there was a doubt as to whither the inspector paid for the sample- which he obtained from the boy whom ho found in temporary charge of the milk cart. After dismissing the case his Worship remarked: "In taking samples it would be well for tho inspector tj purchase them from a responsible person instead of from a youth such as has just been in the witness-box." . John Jdrdan, Staveloy and Waite. Mrs. A. Jameson, and William Antrobus. admitted charges of hairing sold adulterated milk, and each was fined £2, with Court costs 75., analyst's fee 10s. 6d., and feo £1 Is. OTHEE CASES. Joseph Ormrod was fined 10s., with costs 135., for plying for hire at Thornden Station, "Uh a motor-car, while not licensed to do feo. For disobedience of maintenance orders Sarah MaV Ah Tie was fined £2, and Thomas Nelson was sentenced to seven days' imprisonment. ■ Victor James Amos was adjudged the father of a certain child, and was ordered to piy 7s. per week towards its support. Florence M'Anall.v was fined £1 for insobriety and .E2 for having used bad language. Mary M'lntyro was sentenced to fourteen days' imprisonment for having importuned in Willis. Street. For insobriety George Broughton was fined £1. Ernest Hooper was fined <£3 for having used eel-tain language on tho King's Wharf.
