It is estimated that this year's takings will reach X2OO, which, after dctluatiug 10 per cent, (Rugby Union), and other expenses, will leave the council a profit of something like J2llO. METHODIST CHURCH, PETONB. I The Jackson Street Methodist Church, Petone, celebrated the reopening services on Sunday. The Rev. Mr. . Kuowlcs Smith (Central Mission) conduqted the service, and took his text from John Xvii, 9. At the afternoon servioe for the young lie spoke from Acts xx, 20. The Rev. Mr. Lewis and Rev. Mr, Ginger assisted, At the ovening service the Rev, J. J. Lewis preached to a largo congregation. His text li-aa Luke iv, IS and 19. The singing was by a special choir. _ Mr. Maud and Miss foster wero the soloists. Mr. Hepplestone was conductor. Misses Kirk and Sriiart wero accompanist and organist respectively. SKATING AT IIUTT;• - On Saturday afternoon and evening crowds of skaters were present, at the Hutt rink. The attraction of tho evening was tho men's one-mile event for a silver cup, and tho first heat was got off, the Macdonald Bros, being first and second in the event. Tho second heat will bo run off on Saturday evening.. The Indies' half-mile handicap was won by Miss C. Jones. Oil Thursday evening there will bo an egg and spoon race.
