Vice-Regai,. Tho Governor, tho Earl of Liverpool, left by special train for Auckland last night in order to bo present at the time of departure from tho Dominion of H.M.S. New Zealand ito-day. Dalgety and Company, has beon promoted to the position'of manager for tho firm at Mnsterton, vice Mr. Moody, who lias been transferred. During yesterday s sales of skins and hides, the buyers presented Mr. Carrick with a handsome case of pipes as a memento of their estcom. The presentation was made by Mr. A. Cliristenson, of Patea, who wished the recipient all futuro. prosperity, and referred to the pleasant relations which had always existed between Mr. Carrick and the buyers. His Worship tho Mayor, Mr. J. P. Luke, will presido at the entertainment to be given by the Orphans' Club in aid of the Senior Cadets' Band, which will take place in tho Town Hall on Wednesday evening next. Dr. ICalenburg, Into of Guy's Hospital, 1 London, and recently of Gisborne, has, says a Press Association telegram, been appointed medical superintendent of tho Gisborne Hospital ijt a salary of .£SOO, subject to the confirmation of Dr. Valintine, Inspector-General of Hospitals. There were twelve applicants. ' Mr. John Townley, known, as Gisborne's "grand old man," and who was Mayor for some years, and is at present chairman. of tlio Harbour Board, lias (says a Press Association telegram) resigned his position as superintendent of tho Fire Brigade, after close on 30 years' service. Tho resignation was necessary on account of tho legal opinion that Sir. Townley could not retain his seat on tho board and be an active fireman as well.
