MASTERTON NOTES.

At a meeting of the Town Beautifying Society on Tuesday night, it was decided to ask the Mayor to convcno a public meeting of all interested in the soeicty, with a viow to taking more active steps in the way of beautifying tlio town. A daily delivery of parcels within a radius of two miles of the Masterton Post Office is to bo commenced early next month, A shortage of coal is still Icing experienced in Jlasterton, and merchants complain that portions of their consignments are missing when tliev arrive here, despite-previous complaints" which they have made. •i- , A meeting of tlio Jlasterton braucli of the Society for the Preservation of tlio Health of Women and Children wos held on Wednesday afternoon, when a quantity ■ of business of interest to the branch was transacted. The Jlasterton Haricrs are in active training for the competition for the Whito-Ji'Kay Shield that takes place here on July L'o. Tlio local men appropriated the shield at Paimerston North last year, and a determined effort is being inado to retain it. Tho District Nursing Committee of tho Wamirapa Hospital and Charitable Aid Board met on Tuesday. A credit balance of .£653 Ms. 7d. was reported. As tho first year's work lios now been completed, tlio chairman, with Mrs. Coradine and Jliss Gillespie, were appointed to prepare an annual report.
