The inlorprovineial innlcli, Wellington versus' Taranaki, was played _ «t_ Jlawera to-day and resulted in a win for Wellington by l.'l points to 9. The First Spell. Taranaki won tho loss and Wellington kicked olf against the sun and wind. Cade returned, and Jl'Keir/.ie made, a nice dash, but good kicking by Morris found the line well down. A. good forward rush by Turanaki was stopped by M-'Kenzio aiid the Blacks set up « counter-attack which was nipped by M'Leud. From a good rush by Taylor and Cameron, otohr secured ami mudo a great kick. lie rushed down and almost spoilt the return, Evensen saving. Shortly after Lovei'idgo marked and Stohr sent over a line goal: Taranaki, 3; Wellington, 0. the lilacks now-set up a strong attack, lilyard and Kyan being prominent. Cunningham secured and kicked sninrtly and the Wellington forwards rushed to the line, where Francis picked up and scored, lioberts goalcd. Taranaki, .1 points; Wellington, 5 points. Wellington returned the kick-out, and. rushed down-field, bringing on a fine passing rush in which all tho Blacks handled the ball, but were eventually pushed into touch near tho line. Tlio Yellows now woke up, and showed'some smart passing amongst tho forwards. Jt'Leod made a good dash, but the Wellington defence was sound, hvenscn and Jlilchinsou effecting good saves. Slolir essayed a pot, but failed. F'' oin a line-out K. lioberts mode a splendid dash and almost got over at the corner. 1.1i9 Black forwards cleared their line and from ■a penalty Stohr had a shot from l>eyond half-wnv, and landed a magnificent goal. Taranaki, 6 points; Wellington, 5 pointy. Taranaki continued to . press, and their forwards carried the ball across the held. From a scramble Cameron passed to Loveridge who dashed across. Taranaki, 9 points; Wellington, 5 points, lor some time thereafter Wellington were penned on their lines, and Stohr just missed potting a goal. Evensen then relieved with ii fine kick. The Blacks, with fine forward play, got to the Taranaki onarters where lioberts passed finely to tilyard, to Jlitchinson, who was put out into touch. The Blacks still pressed hard. Roberts almost gcttiriS over near the goat. Taranaki at length cleared their tine, Loveridge putting in fine play. Partly dribbling and partly running, he beat alt but the full-back, and the ball went out. Both sides of forwards were working hard ot this stage and presently T. Roberts got in a good kick which Evensen took, and found the line. A Taranaki forward rush, headed by Tamu, gave Wellington a busy time defending, and Stolir unssed <t fairly easy kick. Immediately after the kick-out Devvar made a good dash and with Whif.tingtou. almost scored, Halftime was then called.
The Second Spell. Hawkins kicked off for Taranaki in the second spell, and play was at once fast and open. E. Roberts set his backs 111 motion -and the ball passed through all hands to Morris, who, finding _ him sol t blocked, centred tho ball to W. Rvan, who took it and passed over Ills centre to K. Ryan, who picked up capitally, sidestepped, and scored a pretty try. -taranaki, !) points; Wellington, 8 point?. The Yellows rushed up the kick-out, and broke ri»ht through the defence, being only stopped 011 the line. All made great attempts to get over, but E. Roberts cleared with a brilliant run. and passed out. but Tilyurd'mulled and a good' chanco was lost. Wellington continued tho attack, and Mitchinson was pushed out near the corner flag. From a penalty near the goal E. Roberts missed an easv kick and the Taranaki forwards charged out and cleared their line. Wellington returned to tho attack and fine passing from Wilson to Roberts, to Tilyard to Mitchinson, and 011 to Morris saw the last-named out at tho corner. Brown saved well and found the line. E. Ryan intercepted a pass and made a good dodgy run out, but tho Taranaki defence was good, and the ball travelled up and down the fieM both sides showing good work. The icllow backs got going, but mulling fipoilt a eood chanco. LoveridKO presently secured and made a fine dash and Whittington, I\issick, and Tamil, took part in a groat rush, tho last-named passing out when there seemed to be a good chance of getting over himself. E. Roberts saved, but Taranaki returned to the attack. E. Roberts, however, took a mark from the feet of the forwards, and found the line. .Then Wellington set up a strong attach, and Evensen found the line well down. contended that tho big unions should show some concessions to the smaller unions. They offered to give Wellington 50 per cent of the gate, Iheir object being to show "big football" in Ilawko's Bay. Some discussion ensued over a motion carried at last week's meeting, which was to tho oiled that all matches drawn but by the Fixtures Committee stand, llr. Duncan moved that the former resolution be rescinded. In speaking in support of his motion, Mr. Duncan said that it was timo that the W.F.A. considered the public, and put what was considered the best match on the Basiji Reserve.' This was seconded by Mr. C. IC. Dick. Mr. R. Y. Walls spoke against tho motion, and he was supported by Mr. B. L. Salmon. Sir. T. Thompson said that all clubs should have a chance of playing on the Basin Reserve. Tho speaker said in conclusion: "Give all clubs a fair, sqiiaro deal, and you will get the public support. Don't chop and change tho grounds about after the games have been drawn. If you do you will have the players dissatisfied." In reply, Mr. Duncan said that he was not moving his motion with the purposo of changing the playing ground in any particular match, especially the Thistle-Corinthians fixture. His idea was to provide for any contingency that might arise in tho future. The motion was lost by live votes to four. Permission was granted Ihistle to play a team from Government House stall on the Wellington College ground on Saturday, Juno 28. the usual standard. In the first spell Hereawa, after 10 minutes' play, opened, the store by Boyd shooting n lucky eoal from a iscrambie in the circle. Play thereafter was oven until Artillery, setting charge about lmlf-way, organised the only Rood passing rush of tho day. This finished up, by Spenco scoring and tho spell elided—one all. In th« second spell play was even worso ■than in the first. Players' could not tako a pass or stop the ball, the greasy stato of the ground being largely responsible. Tho only score of the spell was put on by Brown for Hereawa, and the came ended in favour of that team by 2 goals to 1. Mr. J. C, Cus-ack was referee. PAKEIIA A & I'AKEHA B, The A's proved 100 good, and from tlifl ' initial bully they always looked tho winners. The game was at times fast and : the B's showed a decided improvement. The tenth annual meeting of the' Kurori Bowling Club was held on Juno 13. The chair was occupied by. Mr. W. I'\ lingland. The report and balance-sheet indicated that the finances wero in.a sound condition, but there was need of a larger menVbership. The green had played excellently throughout the season, and • there was every prospect of it being in even better condition for tlie coming year. At tho beginning of the season a cup had been presented to the club by Mr. C. H. Henderson, and the competition for it had been constituted tho competition for the champion rink.
