EVERY SPADE WELCOME.

TO HELP "ii&OUK DAY." A well-attended meeting of headmasters of schools and chairmen of school committees, and others was held in the Mayor's room, Town Hall, last evening. The purpose of the meeting was to consider what co-operative steps should be taken in regard to Arbor Day. 1 . The Mayor (Mr.-J,- P. Luke) pointed out that it was the council's intention to endeavour to arouse the enthusiasm of the public, in a practical'manner. Tlio council had decided tliat' a' portion of the Town Belt, in the vicinity of Kelburae 'Park, might advantageously be planted. This plan, they-thought, would he better than planting "here and there." They were going to concentrate their effort and this year the function at Kelburne would be a civic affair. Their main endeavour was to make the function as interesting aS possible for children. What the council really desired was that all those interested jn the beautification, of the city should bring with them their spades and take part. A motion was passed, inviting headmasters of schools or chairmen of any local Municipal Association, to make application to the council for trees, to bo planted on Arbor Day.

Those present formed themselves into a committee, which will co-operate with the council. I ■ \
