On Sunday night Dr. Julian found a burglar in his daughter's bedroom, but tho man escaped by eliding down a post from tho verandah. A search of tlio room afterward showed tliat tho window had been forced and the bottom sash pushed up as far as it could go. A gold watch and chain, and a few pieces of jewellery, of a total value of .£lO, liad bean taken. These were on a dressingtable close to tho window, and tho intruder had evidently just commenced his rifling operations when-disturbed. Tho night before a burglar enteral tho house,of H. Avers, in Linwood Avenue, and, getting through a window, ho stopped across ft sleeping child .and rifled Mr. Ayers's pockcts of .£4. Mr. Ayers was sleeping away in the room all tho time. TAILOR'S SnOP RIFLED. Gisborne, Juno 24. Tho burglary epidemic has evidently flxteiuled to Tokomaru Hay, for, on Saturday evening, tho branch shop of Mr. Zacharia'li, tailor, of Gisborne, Was broken into and tho contents of tho till, amounting to .£l3 10s., stolen. Tho crime was committed wliile tlio manager of tho shop was away at tea, and ho did not discover tho loss until ho returned. Tho door had been broken in apparently. Tho tliicd left no clue.
