MI?. ESCOTT, PAHIATUA. (By AGcociatlon.J Pahiatua, June 24. Mr Escott, Jf.r., delivered a pi-o-scs-sional address hero last night', reviowing tlio legislation of Inst session. He pointed out that tho Government had fulfilled its promises regarding tho freehold, pensions for widows and veterans, destruction of political patronage, and reform of tho Legislative Council, though tlio Bill for tho latter was rejected by the Upper House. Kcplying to Opposition criticism, lie minted out that more money had been spent on public works by the Government than had been authorised, and that tho amount hod only been exceeded thrco times during tho past fifteen years. Kegarding Customs, ho said the previous Government had always been taking credit for largo sums that had boon remitted, yet Opposition critics were now asking for tho free breakfast table. 110 condemned short-dated loans os being suicidal to the country. 110 urged reforms of tho education system, advocated a motor service for tho back-blocks districts, and cheap money for sottlers. A vote of thanks was passed.
