While hunting on Saturday last Mrs, D. G. Riddiford', wife of the master of the Re.ngitikei Hunt, met with a serioiu accident. Iler horse struck a fonco, fall' ing on its rider, who sustained a broken collarbono and had a thumb dislocated. It is feared somo of her ribs have also been broken. At Tokomaru Bay this morning, this two-year-old daughtor of Mrs. Munro was very severely scalded, aud is in a critical condition. ■ > KILLED BY A FALLING' TREE. Christchurcli, Juno 23, Alljert Roberts, a young married man, was killed whilo tree-falling about alum,drcd yards from tho Kniapoi Railway. 'Rlotion at about 2.30 p.m. to-day. U« was being assisted in felling trees by his brother-in-law, and n tree which had a very small root-hold fell suddenly acrosn lioberts, who was unable to get out jif the way. His brother-in-law ran for assistance, but on 'his return Roberts was dead. INFANT'S DEATH. An inquest will bo held this morning respecting the death of Thomas M'Cracken, a ten-months-old child, who died on Sunday night. Tho child had been suffering with whooping-cough.
