Advico has been received that Dr. Wollaston's expedition to New Guinea (sent out under the auspices of tho British Museum and other bodies) has succeeded in scaling tho great snow-clad-mountains on the Dutch portion of the island, which had never previously been surmounted. Tho party climbed Mount Carstenz (13,000 feet), tho highest point, pioneered by 4 a friendly tribe of littlo hillmen hitherto unknown to civilisation. The party endured many privations and secured an excellent collection of ornithological and othor specimens, as well as a quantity of scientific data.
