FAREWELLING THE WARSHIP.

SERVICE FOB SHIP'S COMPANY. (By Telflfifraph.—Special Correspondent-! Auckland, Juna 23. At a farewell ohuToh parade to men and officers of H.M.S. New Zealand yesterday, an address was given by the Rev. W. E. Gillam. Basing his remarks on Acts xxi, G, "And when we had taken our leave one of another we took shipand they returned home again,'" Mr. Gillam stated that the citizens of Auckland took the opportunity of wishing the officers and men vof the warship farewell and God-speed. It had given the people of the Dominion the very greatest pleasure to have the warship and its crew among them for so long, and it was with (sincere regret that they said farewell. They hnrdly .expected to see the ship in New Zealand waters again, but their interest in her career would bo of the keenest type. He thought that the men of the Now Zealand would go away with the impression that Now Zealanders were intensely loyal to the flag, but ho hoped that they wo.uld not think that New Zealanders were a nation of fire-eaters pimply because they wanted to See the Navy increased, and because Now Zealand was one of the first Dominions to adopt com-, pulsory military training. "We are not a peonle who delight in war," remarked Mr. Gillam. "Wo pray for prolonged peace, and that war may cease. What we have righteously won by God's help wo intefid to keep."

Three farms of 100, 144, and 400 acres respectively are announced foT sale by Messrs. Williams, Hunt and Co., Johnston Street. The 400-acre firm ie situated in the Waikato, and. the lit acres in the Dannevirko district. A mass meeting in connection with the movement against the three-fifths majority at tho licensing poll will be held in tl'ie Town Hall this evening at 8 o'clock. Particulars appear elsewhere.
