KAMO LEAVES THE CLYDE, Cable advice has been received from London stating that the Union Company's now cargo steamer Kamo left the Clyde for Dunedin on Saturday, June 21. Tho new vessel is practically a sister ship to tho Kaniona, being 1300 tons register, and is cauipped with engines of 850 nominal h.p. Tho Kamo is intended for the local coastal trade. She will make a call at Bunbury for bunkers en route to Dunedin. HURUNUI'S LOADING POETS. It lias been- announced that the New Zealand Shipping Company's Hurunui will load at Now Zealand ports under tho auspices of the F. and S. Line for West Coast ports of England. The following is the Hurunui's itinerary :—Wanganui, July 14; Dunedin, July 17; Bluff, July 19;. Timaru, July 25; Lyttelton, July 28; and Wellington, July 31. The vessel leaves Wellington finally for Avonmouth on August 4. BARQUENTINE TITANIA PURCHASED. It ia understood that Captain F. Holm, of Wellington, has purchased tho fourmasted barquenitino 'Eitania from tho Paparoa Coal Company. It is Captain Holm's intention to use tho sailer in the intercolonial trade or foreign trade as occasion demands. The Titania is at present. anchored in tho stream at Wellington. Sho was brought from Australia some months ago by tho Paparoa Coal Company to be converted into a hulk here. Captain Holm was in charge of the sailer on hor run across tho Tasman Sea. Tho Titania is a well-known vessel round tho New Zealand und Australian coasts, and has on occasions made passages to the Pacific Coast of America. She is said to be a fast sailer. MESS-TABLE GOSSIP. Mr. J. Hawick has joined the Arapawa as- second officer. , Mr. F. Mouatt lins been appointed fourth engineer of the Maori. Mr. J. M'Loan, late chief officer of tho Maitai, has been appointed to a similar position on the Monowai, relieving Mr. J. limn, who came ashore for instructions. Mr. Newton Campbell, chief officer of tho Tofua, ha 6 gone to Sydney on holiday leave.' Captain Watchlin, of the Union Company's salvago tug Terawliiti, lias been .advised that he has been granted a commission a.s sub-lieutenant in the Royal Naval Reserve. Mr. C. B. V. N. Line's chartered steamer Baunfels, which was recently at Wellington with New York cargo, left Port Chalmers for Newcastle on Saturday. It. was 8.10 a.m. on Saturday before the ferry steamer Mararoa arrived at Wellington from Lyttelton. She had been delayed by heavy fog. Tho T.vsct liner Muritai is expected to leave Wellington for London to-morrow afternoon, or at dayberak on Wednesday. The Star of India., which is bound from London to Wellington, has a large cargo to discharge at Auckland. Consequently she is not expected to arrive at Wellington till Wednesday, July 2. Due in port from Waitara- on Wednesday. the New Zealand Shipping Company's Panares will be dispatched for London on Friday. Tliero, is reported to bo somo friction in England witil respect to the wages paid to mates. A good many owners, it is stated, are declining to pay wage.? according' to the new scale recommended by the shipowners' associations, with the result that a number of officers liavo refused to accent berths at the lower rated offered. Other shipowners who have agreed to tho recommendation are having no trouble. The P. and S. Line's steamer Surrey clcarcd Lyttelton at 7.45 a.m. on Saturday for Avonmouth, via Las Palnias. She is due at. her destination on August 7. Tho coastal Reamer John is due at Wellington from Timaru oil Sunday next. Departure will be taken for Wanganui on Monday, June 30. Casual workers, however, will not participate, and -will work at ordinary rates, but permanent men wall have to be paid holiday rates if their services are required.
