LACROSSE.
SATURDAY'S GAMES. The principal fixture on Saturday was Capitol v. Kelbume, ployed on. Wakefield Park, the former team winning after a good contest by 3 goals to nil. Columbia defeated Wellington on Wakefield Park by G goals to 5, after a very even game. For the Proud Cup competition Capitol is leading with 9 points, Columbia being second with 7, lvelburne third with 6, and Wellington last with 2. CAriTOL V. KELBURNE. In this game thero was some excellent play in the first quarter, both sides attacking vigorously,, and both being equally active in defence., Kershaw, in goal for Kelburne, played his usual safe gamo, only one shot from the crosse of Andrews getting past him. In the second quarter there was plenty of give-and-take play, but no score was registered. Capitol attacked strongly in the third quarter, and scored two further goals, - through tho agency of Rankin and Andrews. There was no further score, Capitol leaving the field winner's three goals to nil. Hutton, Escourt, Jones, and Halligan attacked well for Kelburne, Proud, Cant.v, and Jordan doing good work in defence for the same team. For Capitol, Turner (in goal), AVootton, Comrie, and R. Rankin defended resourcefully. Mr. P. J. M'Govcrn was referee.
COLUMBIA V. WELLINGTON. Some fast and interesting play on both sides characterised this match. In tho first quarter Grant and Leyderi scored for Columbia, and Ryder threw a good goal for Weilington. Columbia attacked strongly in the second quarter, and goals came from the crosses of Casey and Tiller. M'lntyre, a young player for Wellington, saved repeatedly in goal, and altogether showed great promise. In tho latter half of the game was more in favour of Wellington, Firth, Bowen, Rountree,(and Stevens combining well in attack, and getting past the Columbia goalkeeper on four occasions. Leyden notched two further gortls for Columbia prior to the call of time, the game, which was contested in an excellent spirit, ending in a one-goal victory for Columbia. Lee, Ryder, and Rountree defended actively for Wellington, whilst Burns, Gallagher, and Quinn wero most prominent in Columbian defence.
