ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.
KILLED BY A RAILWAY TRAIN. (By Telesraph.—Press Association.) Auckland, June 22. A fatal accident occurred at tho level crossing at Huntly on Saturday afternoon, whereby John Hurst, a miner, employed by the Taupiri Coal Company, lost "his life. Hurst was in the. act of crossing the lino on foot, when the south-bound Rotorua express came up and struck him, and carried him some, distance. DeaSf must have been instantaneous. There was a clear and unobstructed view of the train for about half a mile, and how deceased came to walk in front of the engine is inexplicable. Hurst was a recent arrival in the Dominion, and leaves one son and one married daughter. i I FARMER KILLED WHILE RIDING. Gore, June 22. As ,T. Jl'Lean whs proceeding from his father's farm, Black Swamp, towards Balfour, at about 6.30 p.m. on Thursday, he discovered a man named A. Liddell lying on the road, half a mile from his home, a horse standing by him. Liddell was only able to say that the horse rolled on him. Liddoil was severely injured, and died on Friday- morning. Deceased was a farmer at Black Swamp. He went to Lumsden on Thursday on business, and on the way home tho horse evidently stumbled, rolling on him. He was a hardworking, industrious settler, and leaves a large family.
FELLMOXGBR COMMITS SUICIDE. Christchurch, Juno 22. Yesterday morning a man named Albert Collingg, aged 42, engaged as a fellmonger at Islington, committed suicide by putting the barrel of ft gun in his mouth and shooting himself. At the inquest, beioro Mr. H. Vv". Bishop, S.M., Mts. Collings said that deceased had been on a drinking bout lately, and when lie was on drinking bouts lie threatened to commit suicide. The coroner returned a verdict that deceased committed suicide whilst of temporarily unsound mind. FATAL RAILWAY ACCIDENT. Dunedin, June 21. Andrew Chapman, an old identity of Balclutlia, was knocked down nnd killed by a train nrriving at Balclutha between & and 5 o'clock this morning. Ho leaves a large grown-up family. • He ; lived alone, nnd had: been in the habit lately of wandering about at all hours. FATAL END TQ RAILWAY ACCIDENT. Dunedin; July 22. Lawrence Jeffery, the railway porter who met witii a serious accident while shunting at Lawrence railway (station, succumbed this morning. Deceased was 34 years of age, and leaves a wife and a son, aged eight.
