WOODVILLE ITEMS.
Mr. Thompson, a Government Geologist, tirrived in Woodville on Thursday, and in company with Mr. -Escott, M.P., and Messrs. Horn® (president), Crowe, Govenlock, and W. Salbraith, members of the Woodville Chamber of Commerce, Mr. Thompson was taken out to Mr. Johnson's farm at Maharahara, where 'he will make a thorough inspection and report as to the chances of cofll in payable quantities being found in the locality. Before leaving the district it is Mr. Thompson s mention to visit the 'copper mine. ■At the euchre tournament on Thursday night, the Foresters beat the Band by £7 to 20, and the Railway beat the Brigade by 23 to 14. During the evening Mr. J. Murray, president of .the Athletic Society, presented Mr. Leu. Nicholas with H gold medal. Mr. Nicholas liad been secretary of the society, and left on Friday |o take "up a new position in Dunedin.
