The Princo was greatly embarrassed, and beat a hasty retreat. * Captain Halsey was an amused spectator until the same young lady made straight for him. Ho looked for an avenue of cscape, but found it impossible, and met his fate bravely. Amid a scene of unrestrained merriment, tlio soft brown arms went round his neck, and tlio triumph of the damsel was complete. The officers lined up as tlio Maori 'party walked past, shaking hands. t Several Maori maidens singled out Princo George, and stopped long enough to kiss him as they passed. This time he went through tlio ordeal unflinchingly, though lie was evidently relieved when the unrehearsed ceremony was over.
