BIBLE IN SCHOOLS.
■ — WELLINGTON SOUTH BRANCH. A well-attended and enthusiastic, meeting was held in the Trinity Methodist Schoolroom, Wellington South, lost evening, tho Rev. W. Fancourt, president of tho Wellington South Branch of the league presiding. The speaker of the evening was the E-ev. G. S. Cook, of Molesworth Street Methodist Church, The speaker dwelt largely on the successful working of the Bible-in-Schools League in New South Wales, which, ho said, had not resulted "in the creation of a sectarian spirit, and the teachers did not : find the work irksome. He said he spoke from experience, as he had brothers and friends who wero teachers, and they were all loud in their praises of the system. The speaker also commented on the Nelson system, and pointed out its weaknesses. He said he had tried to work it in two Now Zealand centres, but had been refused permission by tho school committees ana boards. Therefore he, with many other ministers in New Zealand, considered tlio league's platform to be the only practicable ono; aiul in tho interests of the children every effort Should be made to secure its operation in New Zealand. Several _ other speakers were heard, and tho meeting decided to send a note of appreciation to Dean Fitchett for his recent lecture on the subject in the Duncdin Garrison Hall, a summary of which appeared in •The Dominiok a day; or two ago. It was stated by Miss Buttsi organising secretary, that arrangements had been made for tho canvassing of evory home in the electorate, and that already over a thousand cards, asking for a referendum on tho 'subjeot, had been sent out for signature by electors.
