A successful concert was held at Johnsonvillo on Wednesday night in aid of thelocal school playground fund. The programme, which was principally carried out by Wellington amateurs, included a piano solo by Miss -Minifie, picoclo golos by Mr. P. Jliniiio, a monologuo and recitation by Jlr. I'. A. Deveroux, recitations by Hiss Hall, songs by Mrs. Dunbar Si oa no and Messrs. Gerald l)ell and W. H. Church, and an exhibition of conjuring by Mr. F. G. Major. Mrs. Monks and Miss Minifio played tlio accompaniments. In response to a circular from Jlr. W. D. Lysnar, of Gisborno, suggesting that a company be employed in London to raiso the whole of the municipal loans required in the Dominion, the Masterton Borough Council has passed tlio following resolution :—"That considering' the difficulties now being experienced in raising loins for municipal requirements on the Lon don and local money markets, this council is of opinion that it is advisablo that some such' company as the 0110 suggested should be'formed, (o assist in the raising of New Zealand loans on the London money market, and if Messrs Birch. Crisp, and Co. should establish such ti company, this council undertakes that, as far as possible, it will raise all its future permanent loans through that company, providing that, the company are prepared to raise same at or Mow current rates."
