The Tyser liner Muritai is due in port from Napier on Sunday, and is expected to sail for London on Tuesday. It ie announced that the New Zealand Shipping Company's Jlurunui will reiilaco the F. and S. Line's steamer Kent on the loading berth at New Zealand ports for Wost of England ports. The Hurunui it? expected to- sail hence about tho end of July. After discharging Homo cargo at New Zealand ports, the F. and S. liner Kent proceeds to Australia to load for Home. Arapawa, s.s., of' the South Taranaki Steamship Co.'s fleet, leaves Wellington for Gisborne direct at 5 cm; to-day. After discharge at tho latter port she loads sheen for Lyttelton. Discharge of the Wellington portion of the Waiwera'e London cargo was completed yesterday, and she sailed for Timaru last evening. She returns to Wellington to take in Home cargo, and Auckland will be her final port in the Dominion.

Laden with timber, the Union Company's Karamu is due in port from Greymouth to-morrow. ' Gisborne will be the vessel's ficxt port of "call. The Maoriland Steamship Company's steamer Holmdale is at present undergoine annual overhaul on the Wellington Patent Slip. The work includes repairs to her broken sterri post, overhaul of the engines, and -extensive repairs to the deck. The propelling gear will also be overhauled. It is expected that the little vessel will be ready for recommission about tlio middle of next week. The steamer Gertie is beincr converted into a coal hulk. She has had her boilers taken out, and is now ha-vinc all the holes caused by removal of fitting, etc., blocked up. After various other alterations have also been carried out, it is probable that she I will be taken off the cradle to-day. Captain Fletcher, of the steamcj MangaDana, reports having passed a floating soar with about 6ft. of wood above water at D'Urville Island at 2 a.m. yesterday. The wreckage was siehted in the vicinity of the Itod Pino wreck. The New Zealand Shipping Company's steamer Paparoa is due at Wellington from Wait-am, on Wednesday. June 25, to finish London loading. Departure will be taken for London on Friday, June 27. The Aparima was due to arrive at Colombo on Tuesday. She is en route from Cardiff to_ Calcutta. Following is an interestina comparison of the size of the new ferry steamer Wahine and the Maori:—The cross tonnage of tho \\ ahine is 4435 tons, and her dimensions are 375 ft. x 52ft. x 25ft. Gin. The Maori's gross register is 3399 tons, and her dimensions are 350 ft. x 47ft. x 24ft. 6in., so that the 1 Wahiuo is a substantially bigger ship than i tho Maori. Both steamers arc built on similar lines, and both are propelled bv turbine engines. Tho steamer Burgermeister Haelimami, 4315 tons, has been fixed to load ca€e oil/ at New York for New Zealand ports.
