Major-General Godley, Ollicer Commanding tho Forces, 'is to leave for America to-day by tile Aorangi, en route to England. 'Mr. I!. A. I'arton, of Wellington, has been appointed bead of ono of the Departments in the Cliristchurch warehouse of Messrs. Boss and Glendining. Ho leaves for the south to-morrow night. Tho Rev. P. lnglis, Presbyterian Minister at Khandallah, has been forwarded a call by tho Presbytery of Auckland to become pastor of tho Knox Church, Darnell. A special meeting of tho Wellington Presbytery will bo held on Wednesday next to consider the call. Tho death occurred on Wednesday niglit of Mr- George Hill, son of tho late Mr. Herbert Hill, and a partner in the firm of Messrs. Herbert Hill and Co., brick and pipe manufacturers. Mr. Hill, who had only been ill for a week, succumbed to an attack of pneumonia, followed by complications. Ho leaves a widow and two children. Mr. W. H. Collie, son of Mr. 13. Collie, of Newtown, has been appointed organist and choirmaster of St. Thomas's Church, South Wellington. Mr. Olaf Eirik Stout lias been admitted by his Honour the Chief Justico as a barrister and solicitor of tho Supremo Court of New Zealand. Tho Now Zealand Alliance Convention at Cliristchurch re-elected Mr. Wesley Spragg president (states a Press Association telegram). The condition of Mr. J. G. Stott, manager of the Wellington Branch of tho National Bank, who is seriously ill from blood-poisoning, showed a further slight improvement yesterday. Tho attack of ' blood-poisoning was not consequent on an operation as previously stated. Tho Governor has approved tho following promotions of New Zealand Staff Corps Officers:—Lieutenant-Colonel Edward Walter Clervaux Chaytor, T.D. Hon. Lieut.-Colonel W. S. Lindsay (retired list), lato Major of tho Canterbury Yeomanry Cavalry, has been awarded tho Colonial Auxiliary Forces Officers' decoration and the Colonial Auxiliary Forces long-service medal. The appointment of Mr, T. R. Pointon as gaoler of Addington prison is gazetted. Mr. T. D. Cummins hag been reappointed a member of the Wanganui River Trust. Mr. J. B. Clarkson, of Messrs. J. B. Clarkson and Co., will leave on a trip to Australia by theMaunganui to-day. The following visitors are at' present staying at tho Grand Hotel:—Mr. IVm. M. Sundheimor, London; Mr. A. Harvey, London; Captain 11. S. Brown, Madras, India; M. Marcellin Sage, Tahiti; Mr. W. A. Kendrick, England; and Mr. R. S. Duthie, Dunedin. Mr. A. W. Martin, of Dunedin, solo controller for _ Australasia of the Dr. Sherman Institute, will leave txMlny for Sydney, on a short business visit. Dr. Graham Eobertson, accompanied by Mrs. Eobertson, will leavo for the north to-day to recuperalo after his recentsevero illness. Dr. S. Moore will relieve Dr. Eobertson.
