Ot this 1 1-od. is interest rate, heme an increase of l-10d. on last ;year; and 2 2-sd. is the general rate, being a decrease of l-10d. on last year. The total rate lor this year is, therefore; the same as las' year's rate, ORGAN RECITAL. An organ recital was given in St. David's Presbyterian Church in Petono last evening, the occasion, being tho nnaiverysary of the church. Mr. Rennie was organist, and was assisted in the programme by tho Misses Cotton and Roagers, Mr. Warren, and others. MORRIS TUBE RECORD. Tho second fortnightly competition in connection, with the ketone Working Men's Club Morris Tube Eiflo Club resulted in, P. D. Taylor winning in tho A class. He established a club record by putting on 11'. consecutive bulls-eyes. M. Henry was the winner in the B class.
SANITATION REPORT. The annual report of the sanitary inspector (Mr. W. B. Cough) of the Petone Borough Council states that during th© year 2145 visits of inspection were made as "against IGB6 for the previous year, and the number of defects which were the subjects of notices was 194. During the period under review 23 cases of infectious diseases have beeu reported by the health inspectors, being 3.28 per 1000 of our population, viz., tuberculosis (eleven) being 1.57 per 1000. The total number of deaths from infectious diseases was nine, • tuberoulosis eiifht, enteric fever one. The infectious diseases show an increase of five over the 1910-U period; tuberculosis shows an increase of eight, enteric fever three. Diphtheria shows a decrease of five and scarlet fever ono. ilio figures for 1910-11 are —Diphtheria eight, 9carlet fever seven, tuberculosis three; total, 18, being 2.71 per 1000. Tho infectious diseases reported to the various hospital boards throughout the Dominion number 4378. Comparing ketones figures with tho above they tell in Petone's favour by 1.69 per 1000.
An "at home" was held in the Church of Christ, Sydney Street, Petone, yesterday afternoon by members of the Women's Christian Temperance' Union. Mrs. House was in tho chair. There were about thirty ladies present and on enjoyable afternoon was spent. As it was "white ribbon day," appropriate items were given during the afternoon. Those taking part in the prograuimo were:— Organ solo, Miss R. Ashby; songs, Mrs. Croziers and Mrs. Franklin; duet, Mesdames Ashby and Murgatroyd; recitations, Mesdamos Hope and Usmar; reading, Mrs. Battesby; address, Mrs. I rantlin. During the afternoon a resolution was passed sympathising with Mr. Coles recardinz the death of his wife, who was lately president of the "VV.C.TJJ.
