Y.M.C.A. DEBATING CLUB.
At the weekly meeting of the Y.M.C.A. •Literary and Debating Club on Tuesday a mock Parliamentary election was new. Mr It. Brown presided over a satisiaotorv attendance of members. The elec ? tion proved to bo very interesting, and at times amusing. Ten candidate bad been nominated and only three were required for' eleotion. Each candidate delivered a speech in whi<;h he outlined his policy. The. policies" were varied, and 6ome included the Advocacy of tho aboiltion tof the pariy system, the introduction of a decimal. coinage system,'-imd State ownership of those industries dealing with the necessities of life. The speeches worf listened to with great interest and thevotin" at the conclusion of the meeting reBiiftcd in ,tho election of . Messrs. Lammson, Reeves, and Paisley. Noxt week there will bo a debate on "Bible instruction m State sohools."' ; " . ' ' , In a report on tho work an Territoria camps presented to the Y.M.C.A. Board o Directors recently, it was pointed out thai during the Trentham and Oringi encamp ments 49G0 letters wero written and for. warded through the Y.JI.G.A. marques Teligious meetings wcr< held with an attendance of 2860 an av erago of 100. Tho attendance at the tent totalled 2-t,3CO, giving an average ot jM per day. Bagatelle, draughts, chess, ant pingpong were provided for tho social en Toyment of the men, in. addition to mM zine3, newspapers, etc., and a piano. Mr Ityan, ofiicer in charge of the tent, «pen seven weeks under canvas, and _speaks iu | high terms of the b?haviour of tho men.
