ACTIVITIES IN THE SOUTH.
(By Telegraph.—Press Astpclatlon.) Christchurch, Juno 18, The ■burglary scaro in Christcburohi and suburbs is increasing. Further case 9 were reported on Tuesday night. Tho residence of Mr. Justice Denniston, at the corner of Gloucester Street and Roileston Avenue, received, attention. >Tho servants heard a noise of someone climbing up tho verandah. Thoy rushed into the dining-room to call Mrs. Denniston, but Olio person on the verandah, hearing footsteps insido, made off. Tho police 6ay this case was a ruse. On Tuesday afternoon a young woman in tho house of Mr. W. C. Nicholls, Mansfield Avenue, reported, that slio discovered a strange man in oue of the rooms. She rusliedl down tho stairs, and gave tho alarm, but tho man got away. Tho police disbeliovo this story.
