BOWLING AND TENNIS.

LYALL BAT 'CLUB, The annual report of tho Lyall Bay Bowling and Tennis Club states that although the grounds were opened late in the season, members havo mado the most of their opportunities for play, rhe ctuib was -represented by Mr. J. G. Brown in the Champion of Champions Singles, and, although not successful in winning, he played a really good game. Tho club also competed in the Champion of Champions Rink Match with credit. It is proposed to enter for the Senior Pennants next season, and regular inter-club matches will k'rhVtennis courts havo been mado good ■use of by members during tho year, and several competitions have been held. A team from Terrace- hud, Palmcrstqn North, consisting of fourteen players, paid a visit at Easter. A very enjoyable todays' match was played, resulting m a victory for Lyall Bay. The senior team, consisting of four ladies and six mon, played seven inter-club matches, all ol which they won. , Tho croquet lawn has been made good nse of by the members, but, unfortunately it was not in very good order, owing to tho late date on which it was sown. It has now been top-dressed and re-sown, md should bo in first-class condition next year. The membership of the club now stands: Bowlers, 63; tennis players, 87; croquet players, 23; total, 1(3. Ihe directors have decided that it » necessary to raise Itho subscriptions of tennis members to 30a. for men and 203. for ladies, and the croquet subscription to 155., m ordcr to provide sufficient revenue to meet the current expenses.
