DISPOSING of the funds.

As soon as the accounts can be completed a meeting of the general committee will be called and the accounts will be laid before its members. Until this had been done, the Mayor stated, nothing would bo done in the way of altocatin*? the proceeds of tho carnival. Some time ago a committee of nine pera™s was get up by the executive to control the cemival funds. The general committee weuld bo invited to approve fie ustion of the executive in appointing this body. The meeting last evening had boforo_it a report from tho City Engineer (Mr. W. H. Morton) embodying recommendations for the disposal oE the funds realised by the carnival. The substance of tho report is being withheld meantime, put ft is understood'that Mr. Morton submits two proposals, the first being to expend the whole of the money in furtherance of the schomo for improving the Basin Reserve, which was advanced by the Uty Engineer some time ago. and the second to expend the funds in extending the Onental Bay esplanade. Either of these works would absorb a great deal more money than was realised by the Easter carnival.
