CREMATION.

FIGURES SLOWLY INCREASING. - The fact that there is to be a cremation at tli© Municipal Crematorium in the Kavori Cemetery to-day, and another on Monday—two within three. days—prompted inquiry as-to the use that is being made of the crematorium, which has now been in existence for six years. It was ascertained that, including the two cases mentioned abovo, there have been eleven cremations during the present year, which is a larger proportion than has been registered in any previous year. The increase has keen very slow, which is perhaps attributable to the fact that the crematorium is hardly tho kind of municipal undertaking that can be advertised. Still, there have been "cases where people have actually called on the Registrar (Mr. J. R. Palmer), and intimated their intention of making provision for cremation in their wills. Some time ago an aged couple called at the town clerk's office and intimated that the object of tlieir visit was to register their desire to be cremated when their end came.. Of course, it is no part of the Registrar's duty to take notice of such'. requests, and the old people were informed that all they need do was to insert a brief note to that effect in their wills, or inform their nearest relatives'or friends of their wish. .
