PALMERSTON NORTH. Councillor .E. L. Broad, wlio moved tlio | resolution at tho Borouyh. Council inceting granting tho A. and I'. Association a remission of rates, has (tho "Daily Times" states) forwarded to tho association his resignation as a member, stating that he has taken this action becauso of the unpatriotic action of certain members of tho A. and 13.I 3 . and because, also, of tho different attitudo displayed towards tho town to that ot the society's deputation which urged upon tho council tho remission of rates. Mr. K. Goldsman, of tho Pahnerston Magistrate's Court staff, is relieving at Otaki, Mr. O'ltorkc, tho clerk ot tho Otaki Court, being away on leave. Jlr. Leonard Mowlcm, son of Mr. i. Mowlcm, is at present visiting l'alniereton. Ho is wireless operator on tuo C'orinthic, and during tho past four years has held appointments in various parts ot North and South America. At tho monthly meeting of the Hospital Board on Thursday, Mr. J. G. Wilson presiding, replies wero received from the various local bodie3 in regard to the board's proposal to raiso a loan for building purposes. Palmerston Borough Council, Oroua County Council, Feilding Borough Council, luwitea County Council agreed to the proposal. Manawatu County Council replied: "That as there is a possibility of no Government subsidy being received if the board raise a loan, it will be safer if tho contributing bodies raiso their own proportions," and Foxton Board objected to tho taking of a loan. After a little discussion it was agreed that the local contributing bodies would have to levy and. raise the amount required. Tho Palmerston North borough's contribution would bo ~700.
NAPIER. Lieutenant Bishop, of Gisborne, has arrived in Napier to tako up tho duties of adjutant of tho Pirst Battalion Ninth Kegiment. Sergeant F. J. Hooper, of tho Legion of Frontiersmen, is appointed _ recruiting sergeant for the V/airoa district. The Government Valuer (Jlr. Wright) will commence a revaluation of tho Borough of Napier on Wednesday next. Tho Hon. 11. M'lCenzio arrived in Napier on Thursday morning by one of the small coastal boats. It was his intention to land at Te Apiti, whero ho is carrying out a bridge contract, but he was carried on. A Catholic "social" and danoe was held in tho Coronation Hall, at tho Port on Wednesday evening. Tlio music was played by tlio Jlikado Band. Jlr. J. liarhiLin was responsible for tho decoration of the hall, Captain Wilderstrom having kindly lent the flags.
