HERETAUNGA SPECIALITIES.
In another part of this issuo spocial attention is drawn to tho breeding-stock available for distribution at tho Heretaunga poultry yards, and tho proprietor, Mr. A. G. Mumby. takes this opportunity to outline briefly a fow of the_ cardinal principles that have been etrictly observed in developing his stock.
The "Heretaunga" Whito Leghorn is built upon strains that have mado Messrs. Caclman and Brooks world-renowned by the public performances of representatives from their yards. Every care has been taken to preserve and strengthen the constitutional points, without sacrificing the laying, powers. With pardonable pride, attention is directed to tho unique performances of tho Heretaunga Whito Leghorns and Indian Runner ducks in winning tho double at tho 1911-12 egglaying competition at Christchurch, and to tho consistent performance of the two pens of liens and one pen of ducks that were engaged in the competition just concluded at the same place. In the mi 2-13 contest tho Heretaunga liens filled tliird aud fifth positions out of sixty entrants. This test only covered fifty-one weeks, as against a full year in the former engagement, yet tho two pens under notice showed [i total of 1468 and 1-/13, opainst UGI for tho full period the year before. In tho last competition the ducks laid 1419, as against 1351 when tlioy von the 1911-12 test.
