THE SUBMARINE DISASTER.
CAUSED BY "BACK-FIRING." ; By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright London, June 11. Engineer-Commander Moore, whose legs were amputated as a result of injuries sustained by him through an explosion on the submarine E5 in the Bristol Channel pn June 9, is dead. At the inquest in oonnection with the disaster, it was stated that, the officers were breakfasting on Sunday when there was a loud report, and a sheet of flame shot out of the engine-room. This' was attributed to the back-firing igniting vapour in the crank pit. The engines are of the I)iesel type, and theoretically could not back-fire, but this sometimes happens in practloe. A verdict of accidental death was refrnrn#*!.
