The contest for the middle-weight championship, of Now Zealand and a purse, of 30 sovs., presented by the Bush Boxing Association, was fought out at the Drill Hall, Pahiatua, last night between "Barney" Ireland (Waipawa), holder of tho title, and "Tom" M'Grath (late of Sydney), the newiy-appointcd tutor of tho Bush Boxing Association, Pahiatua. The light was of fifteen rounds. Up till the thirteeenth round M'Grath did most of the attacking, but Ireland defended well, 1 and, occasionally attacking, secured a 1 slight lead on points. In tho fourteenth round Ireland forced matters, and soon had M'Grath in distress. In the fifteenth round, Ireland, who was still fairly fresh, also wentiin for punishment, but his judgment was bad. The referee, Mr. T. O Far--1 rell (AVanganui), declared the match a 1 drait, amid cheers and groans. ! The amateur contests resulted:—B.
