MOTOIt-CAR HITS EXPRESS. Last week-end a married man named Isaac Clark, employed at All'. At tho Potono Wesley Literary and Debating Society last evening. Sir Kobert Stout, Chief justice, delivered an address On tlio "Brotherhood of Man." There was a very, largo attendance, and tho ohair was occupied by Mr. J, W. M'Ewan, Mayor of Pelone. In tko courso of his remarks Sir Bobert Stout took his auditors to tlio realms of astronomy, and emphasised tho dependence which each planet has on others. Coming to the human family, he stated that the "colour lino" was no bar to brotherhood. It was a kinship which should be extended throughout the world. The public meeting which was initiated by the Hutt Fire Brigade for the purpose of raising funds to secure a motor fire-engine has been called by the Mayor (Mr. E. P. Bunny) for next Thursday evening, in tho Lyceum Hall, Main Road, Lower Hutt. At last night's meeting of the Hutt Borough Council Inspector Hugo (who furnished a report on the motor iire-en-{fino for Lower Hutt) was thanked for liis services, and tho clerk was instructed to writo accordingly. BAZAAR AT PETONE. Tho parishioners of tho Sacred Heart Church, Petone, intend holding a bazaar in November next, in. aid of the church funds. Already committees have been formed, and sowing guilds are at work. Tho bazaar will bo held in the Lyceum Theatro. "THE DANDIES." To-morrow night Hutt and Petone peoplo will liavo an opportunity of seeing "Tho Dandies." This company will give a first-class programme in King George's Theatre, Lower Hutt, which can comfortably seat over a thousand people. Seats may bo booked at tho Town Hall Buildings. "Tho Dandies" will pay a Teturn visit to Lower Hutt at a future date. HUTT PARK AFFAIRS. In regard to tho matter of broadening tho approaches at the Waiwetu bridge, a question which was beforo tho Hutt Parle Committee at its recent meeting, representatives of the Graceficld estate and members of the committee paid' a visit to tho spot on Saturday afternoon. The Graceiiela representatives explained that if tho approaches wore widened traffic, when the new road was opened, would bo greatly .convcnienced, and if the committee had' no objection to the handing over of the land for this purpose, a great benefit would bo achieved. A further proposal to acquire a strip of land on tho western side of tho bridge (in order to straighten tho road) was put forward. After conferring, the Park Committee announced that no objection would T,» raised to tho land being acquired, as it would lie a distinct benefit to traffic.

Nothing was done in regard to the proposed racing track, for the Hutt Valley Trotting Club, as nono of tho trotting members were present. NOTICES OF MOTION. At tho ordinary meeting of the Petone Borough Council, to bo held next Monday, Councillor Findlny has given Hotico to, movo: "That facilities bo given to work cargo at tho Petone Wharf as follow:— (1) That rails sufficient to carry four tons bo laid down. (2) That a shed largo enough to store 1000 tons bo erected at tho foot of the structure. (3) That electricity to the motivo nower in conjunction with the drainage scheme. (4) That a small committee of the council be appointed to confer with tho engineer re the combination of electric power for both drainage and wharf;' The Petone Municipal Band will give a concert on tho local Tecreation ground next Sunday. It is reported that Messrs. Lever Bros., soap manufacturers, of England, intent! to shortly commence operations in Petone. Already laud (it is understood) has been purchased, and tho plans for the works aro in preparation.
