BEQUESTS FOR THE BLIND,
LATE SIR RICHARD NICHOLSON'S ESTATE. By Teleempli—Press Association—Copyright (R-ec. June 9, 11.30 p.m.) London, Juno 9. Tlio estate of the late Sir Richard Nicholson, who. carried out surveys in tho towns of Wangnmii and Dunedin, is valued at Tho deceased gentleman, who had been blind for tho last four years, donated .£38,000 to various institutions for the blind, including tho Ophthalmic Hospital, and .£12,000 to tho Solicitors' Benevolent Association. The iate Sir Richard Nicholson was born in England in 1820 (Hertfordshire), and joined (lie surveying stniT of New Zealand in 1813. He assisted to lay out tho town of Waliganui and was also surveyor to lay out the town and county, seotions at Dunedin. He becauio a solicitor ill 1851, and afterwards was oharged with tho claim of the late Earl of Shrewsbury and Talbot to tho earldom of Shrewsbury and tho estates Annexed to tho title, whioh was established in 18G9.
