ißy Qlehcok.l Thdre will-be no racing in the Dominion this week. A reminder ia given that acceptances for the first days handicaps of the Hawko's Bay Winter meeting close on Friday. Mr. E. J. Watt has claimed the name of Mombasa for the bay colt by All Black —Kilindini, and Naivasha for the All Black—Bin© River filly. Both voungsters were recently sent to Randwiek to be trained by H. Rayner. From Melbourne comes word that Mr. J. Twomey, a well-known starter in Warrnambool, has been appointed starter to th?. Ascot, Richmond, and Fitzroy Clubs, in succession, to the lato Mr. Godfrey Watson, at a salary of ,£4OO per year. So far no appointments have been mado by the V.R.C. or V.A.T.C., but it is generally considered that Mr. J. O. Inglis will get both posts. When Valido (Veles—Slaveaway) won the Corinthian Handicap, seven furlongs, at the Oaklands Hunt Club meeting on May 31, he was making his first appearance in his new owner's colours. Ho carried top-weight, list. 91b., and won easily in lmin. 37sec._ At the same meeting, another' Dominion-bred horse distinguished himself. This was Zealand, who won the concluding event, the Dunhelm Handicap, for which he started favourite.

Some seventy-nine horses have been nominated for tho Now Zealand Cup, as against sixty last year. All the best handicap horses in the Dominion aro engaged, and amongst them is tho imported horse King Mark, who is owned by tho Karamu sportsman, the Hon. J. D. Ormond. Haskayne and Anguish, from tho same stable, aro also nominated. Sir G*o. Clifford has engaged Stevedore, Masterpiece, and Quarantine. Mr. J. li. R-eid has entered Mowbray, llinaldo, Martel, Ogier, and Salzburg. Emperador and Chorubini hail from R. J. Mason's stable. Mr. W. _E. Bidwill's sole representative is Imagination. Mr. E. J. Watt has last year's winner, Midnight Sun, Cheddar, and Sea Pink to choose from on the day, and the Stead Bros, have Bon Ton, Bon. Revo, Sauci, and Somniform. Mr. J. F. Buchanan has three nominations, viz.—Tannhauser, Thrax, and Bulletin. St. Francis, Bobrikoff, and labour Day aro Mr. T. H. Lowry's entries. - Domino and Potoa belong to Mr. W.* C. Ring. Mr. C- J- Parker owns Fort William and Multiply, and Trentliam stables will be represented by Ceylon, Turna. Sonite, Mira, and Undecided. L. H. Hewitt, the ex-New Zealand horseman, now in. England, was recently fined £5 for shooting pheasants. In his defence it was. alleged that ho did not know pheasants from crows. The Sydney boat which is to leave Auckland to-day will tako a big crowd of New Zealand sportsmon who. are bent on spending tire* winter in Sydney. Amongst these are tho well-known jockeys, L. Wilson and A. Oliver. The two Porirua-trained mares, Aloha and Dirge, have finished .their racing careers, and have been sent to the Waikanao stud. Their boxes at the beach stable will be filled by a couple of yearlings. This year's New Zealand Cup nomination has only onc.e been exceeded, and that wa3 in 1910, when the total entries numbered eighty-six. . Midnight Sun, Masterpiece, and Sinapis. the place-getters in the last New Zealand Cup, are all entered for this year s race. ! For its nowly-establislied weight-for-nge race the Egm'ont Stakes, which will be run at tho Summer meeting in February next the Egmont Racing Club received the very satisfactory total of 93 noniina'"rhe Now Zealand-bred gelding Blakeney, by Soult—lnamorata, won tho Welter Handicap at Bendigo on May 28. At Riccartou, Coroniforni is at present under veterinary treatment for a poisoned hock. The case is reported to bo a serious one, the condition of the horse necessitating' tho greatest care. The committee of the South Canterbury Jockey Club, savs a Press Association telegram, has voted tho secretary, Mr. L. S Frascr, a bonus of 20 guineas as a mark of appreciation of bis services during the last ton years.
