apiti-feilding railway. (B7 Telegraph—Presa Association.) Feilding, Juno 7. ' At a representative public meeting at Kimbolton yesterday a Chamber of Commerce was formed to frame definite proposals to place before tho minister for , Public Works for tho construction of a light railway from Apiti to Feilding, tyventy-nino miles, via Kimbolton, luwi.toa, and Cheltenham. Tho Minister is to be invited to inspect tho proposed route. PUBLIC BODY AND EMPLOYERS. Wanganui, June 8. "Should a public body join an employers' association?" was a question debated at the Wanganui Murlxmr Board's table on Friday night. * Two members objected on principle, contending that as a body representing all clussfcs of the community, tho board had no right to join an association which existed for tho defence of private profits. Other members took the view that as tho board had to spend public money, it was its duty to protect tho public interest by resisting demands for unjustifiable expenditure, and as they had to employ fhbour, the board was justified in joining the association lor the public benefit. This proved the view of tho majority, and only tho two members ill question voted against the to join the Wanganui Employers' Assocmi tion. When a similar proposal came bej fore tho council a few days asco council- ' lors disapproved of it strongly, ami: it | was unanimously rejected.
