9 MINISTERIAL EXPLANATIONS. By IWegraph—Press Association—Copyright Vienna, Juno G. Tho Minister for Defence, speaking in tho Reichstag, said Colonel Rcdl had pass'ed judgment on himself, though his death was no expiation of his monstrous villainy. Ho had sold mobilisation plans to foreign States. Tho Minister denied that tho authori-ties-had endeavoured to hush the matter wp. ' Rcdl, ho said, came to Vienna, into commit suicide, and had declared that ho had ofTonded against morality, and had tarnished his honour as a soldier. A military commission, sent to arrest him, found Redl preparing to die. In his confession he denied that lie had had any accomplices. The Minister did not explain why tho commission had failed to arrest Rcdl, or to prevent him from committing suicide.
