DEFORMED AND WEEDY DEER? Oamaru, Juno G. A special meeting of tho Waitaki Acclimatisation Society was held to-night to consider the statements mado by the member's of a deputation from tho Otago Society that waited on tho Minister for Internal Affairs. Ono statement was that tho Waitaki Society would not co-operato in culling out tho deformed and weedy deer, and that weedy swarming over from tho Waitaki County to that of Otago. Tho latter assortion was characterised as grossly inaccurate, the Waits ki Society's ground being only partially stocked. It was resolved that a letter bo drafted to tho Minister, giving all tho information in tho society's possession setting out the real facts gleaned from tho visits of members who aro stalkers, and from others who had visited the country.. PARCHED AREAS RECOVERING. Dargaville, Juno 6. Mr. J. G. Coatos, member for Kaipara, who lias this week viewed fifty farms, states that North Auckland has mnde a phenomenal recovery from tho summer drought, and that places which, two weeks ago, were absolutely bare, now exhibit oloso grass tlireo inches high. THE DAMAGED S.S, INGA. Darqaville, Juno G. The discharge of tho steamer Inga is proceeding at Aoroa. The vessel is yet too deep in tho water to discern or locate the damage. Tho pumps are going, but it is belioved that tho water is only in tho tank, the ship being double-skinned. After discharge tho vessel will proceed to Kaipara Kiver to bo beached. '
DARGAVILLE ESTATE SOLD. Dargaville, June fl. Tho sale is reported of an estate of thirty thousand acres throo miles from Dargaville at a price in the vicinity of JT60.000 from Mr. B. E. Williams to Mr. R., H. Abbott, of Auckland, who has formed a company to subdivide it, road it, and make it available for settlement. THE CURB ON MOTORS. Ashburton, Juno 6. The Ashburton traffic bridge is -well known'to motorists all over the South Island, by reason of the vigilance of the inspector who enforces the by-law restricting the speed of motor-cars and cycles to six miles an hour. At meeting of the County Council Mr. W. T. Littlo moved a resolution of which ho had given notico: "That tho limit be increased to nine miles per hour." After considerable discussion tho council divided and, lis four members voted each way, tho chairman gave his casting vote against tho motion, and no alteration will, therefore, bo made. TOWNLET & ITS WATER. Whangarei, June 6. The ratepayers of Hikurangi carried a proposal to expend ,£7OOO for providing a water supply for tho town. OUR CEMENT OUTPUT. Whangarei, June 6. Owing to a slackening demand for ccmcmt, consequent on reduced activity in public and local works, and to over-pro-duction in tho Dominion, tho Cement Co. carrying on operations .on Limestono Island is reducing tho output by 10 per cent. About twenty men have been paid off. Hitherto tho company's output has been about thirty-five thousand tons year, ly. During the last six months 8500 tons was exported to Australia. SERVICES DISPENSED WITH.

Tho Education Board has decided to dispense with the services of twelve uncertificated teachers, and givo notice to others.that they must qualify; also that the board draw up a new scale of salaries to make tho profession more attractive. FRANKLY HOSTILE. Dunedin, June 6. It was unanimously resolved by tho Otago district of the Educational Institute:—"That, wliile recognising the valuo of Bible-teaching and religion, the institute is opposed to the :l!ible-in-Stato ScKools League's programme." ' . OFFICERS IN DEFENCE.CASES. Christchurcb, Juno 6. Touching certain remarks made in tho Lyttolton Court on Wednesday by Mr. H. W. Bishop. S.M., as to the failure of responsible officers to attend prosecutions under the Defence Act', Captain Kelsall area group officer, told' a reporter that the cases in point were misadventures. In all previous prosecutions the police had notified the defence authorities of the dates of prosecution, and the necessary officers had been there. In this caso the polico had not done so and he believed that the blame rested entirely with them.
