LEAGUE COMPLAINT. PUT TO RESERVES COMMITTEE, BASIN & OTHER GROUNDS. A deputation from tho Wellington Rugby i/eague, consisting; of Mossrs. M. J. Reardon and \V. Martin, waited upon the Reserves Committee of the City Council to renew their appeals for more Driviliges in respect to playing on oity grounds. Mr. Reardon oomplained that unfair discrimination mis shown against tho League and ha asked that they recoivo tho same treatment as othor associations aud unions in tho matter of the usb of tho Basin Reserve and tho conditions governing suoh use. On behalf of tho Loaguo ho rpbuttod the rumours that it was o professional body. Players received 10s. per day only when travelling away from home, together with ordinary travelling and hotel expenses. Ho made application for tho use of the Basin Reserve to play tho fol-: lowing matches: New Zealand v. Wellington; Ancklnnd v. Wellington; Canterbury v. Wellington; New South Wales v. Now. Zealand; Wellington v. New' South Walesj Wanganui v. Wellington; and Marlborough V. Wellington. Air. Martin asked also for the right to tako up a collection at Newtown Park (it their ordinary cup match it) bo held on Saturday, Mr. Reardon added that it seemed to him that the prejudice against tho League was duo to tho l'aot that it wkis a working man's league. The ganio was played by working men and controlled by working men. i'ho chairman (Mr. G. Frost), in reply, said that no discrimination had been shown ngninst tho League. Tho reason why tho Basin Reserve was not prantod to them was bccauso the oommittea objected to Rugby football being played on • the ground when it had 60' lately been, repaired at great expense. Ho believed that his fellow-oommitteemen, with himself, had been euro that tho League, vm a professional body, but in view of Mr. Reardon's statement they would doubtless change ■ that Opinion somewhat. Ho assured the deputation that tho committee would reconsider the League's claims for grounds, but on jao account would tho ' Basin Reserve bo granted for Rugby • matches. Tho League could use New- 1 town Park and chnrgo for admission there, and thero was no reason why they should not draw as big a "gate" at Ncfrtown Park as they would at the Cabin Reserve.
