NOTES ON THE RACING. Treo Lucerne, though suffering from a cold, was made favourite in the opening event, which was ail interesting race to watch. Axis had a good break from tho favourite and Yankee Doodle as they raced into the straight, but then Aratintia came fust on the outside, and in a closp finish, won by a head. In the absence of \vland and Abcrbrothock, Sea Queen looked the best of' good tilings for the Hurdles and tho Trentliam mare duly won. She was in charge entering the straight the first time,-but at the seven furlongs Ronganuiu ran up to her, and, jumping tho next fence in better style, he got a slight advantage, but the pace of tho other inaro took her away again, and sho led over tho last fence aud won nicely. Fond Memory was well back and then come Aviator and Royal Maid. T}io fourteen acceptors nil lined un at tho barrier for the Huia Handicap. After an excellent start Vi shot out from Ivatna, Peroneal, and Mulga Bill, with Moutoa, Givl vluppinß th« field. Round the back the positions were practically unchanged, but Bvron moved into the eeo--ond rank. Across tlio bottom, Glonforn, Peroneal, and Undecided were all closs to tlio leader, but once in tho straieht Mulga Bill shook oft' the others and chased Vi, but his efforts were unavailing aud the Merriwee mare, all out, won by 1 a length. Toney also came fast and got third, and then followed Glenfern, Byron, and Negative. Tho Stewards Hack Handicap was a. good race tho wholo way and resulted in, a. close finish between Kaniki, who was neglected on tho machine, and Tiwari. Dirge was favourite, and site led to within 100 yards of the post, when Ivaniki' and Tiwari joined in. A keen struggle between the pair resulted as above. Borsil, Dirge and Red Lino wero the next to finish.

. Makara and Altcar, winner and runnerup respectively on the first day.' drew bad positions in tho Railway, Handicap, but tho public made tho ICaramu horso a hot favourite, with Blue Lnkp next in favour. The latter was quickest to begin, but Ineuru soon joined her. Tho pair wero headed at tho end of a furlong by Altcar who led lo tlio turn wlicro ho collapsed. Ineuru then took charge and won by n couple of lengths. Bluo ' Lake was just clear of Lcnpnki and Sanguinary who finished together. lledloh was favourite in tho Ohau Welter and after a good finish with Parky ho scraped homo bv a length, with Otama in third place. Trincess Flo made tho running with Lord Kilcheran and Otama, but entering tho straight Deoley took tho favourite to the front, and holding his ' own, he won by a length. This success brought Deeley's wins for tho season level with Emerson, each horseman now having ridden 55 winners.

In the Ilnck Scurry the first four horses finished in the order indicated 011 the machine. Record, a good-looking sort, from F. Tilley's stables, was made favourite, and juinmne; out well ho led the whole way. Tiova was always handy and ftot within n neck of the winner at tlio finish. Victoris was tl\ird and Sir Donald and Cadonia next. Patroness fell _at tho turn, but his. rider was not injured.
