BOROUGH ESTIMATES.
EASTBOURNE RATES INCREASE. The Finance Committee of the Eastbourne Borough Council have inado n recommendation to the council that the general rate of the borough be increased by Id. in the pound. The Finance Committee decided on this recommendation, after carefully considering the estimates for the current year. Their report has been adopted. The estimates show the receipts as follow General rate of 2d. in tho pound on tho unimproved valuation of all rateable property in the borough, estimated to producc ,£SGG Cs. 9d.; sanitation fees, .£lßl 10s.; Government subsidy, ,£120; sundry receipts, v£3o; total, i£lli)7 lGs. 9d. The hospital and oharitablo aid rate of 9-50ths of one penny in the pound on the capital valuation ot all rateable property in tho borough is estimated to produce £136 Is. 4(1., and a recurring special rate of id. in the pound on- tho unimproved valuation of all rateable property in the borough is estimated to produce «£2lf! 10s. Gd. On tile expenditure side, .£250 is set down for public works; ,£l5O for maintenance; =£210 sanitation.; «£SO lighting; *£100 land purchase; ,£IOO administration ; ,£SO professional expenses; .£7,1 Gs. Gd. interest charges; <£178 10s. 3d. general expenses, sundries, and contingencies. A sum of .£135 4s. 'Id. is set down for tho Hospital and Charitable Aid Board levy, and JI2W 10s. Gil. for interest and sinking fund oil No. 1 loan.
The estimates approved by tho Jliramar Borough Council are as follow:—Administration expenses, ,£1193; road works and sanitary services, .£1178; lighting, .£500; sewerage, «E250; hospital and charitable aid, ,£590; tramway exppnses, ,£ ISO; repayment of bank overdraft, <£1114; total, J65365. The estimated receipts are:—Government subsidy, .£300; license fees and royalties, ,£315; balance proposed to bo met by a general rate nf 2d. in the pound on .2570,000 being tho total unimproved rating value of th/j property on the valuation roll for, tho borough, to bring in £1750. Tho estimates for the Karon Borough Council have not yet been prepared. Hie Assessment Court sat on Saturday last, when.' the valuation in a number of objections was sustained. Appeals undev Section 31 of the Land Valuation Act have been put in, and this lias caused a delay in the preparation of the estimates. The Onslow Council's estimates will be considered in the course of a week.
