ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.
MOTOR-CAR CAPSIZES. . ..' . (By TtleeraDh.— Special Oorrapondtnt.) Wanganui, June 2. On Friday last Dr. and Mrs. Sloan and th-> Rev. T. M'Donald, of Hawera, met with an accident from which they wen*, fortunate in escaping with comparatively little injury. They had been to Waverley, and were Hearing Manutahi on the return journey when two of the tyres of their motor-car became displaced, and the car capsized, all the occupants being thrown under the car. .Dr. and Mrs. Sloan were pinned under the car, and could not move, but the other occupant was able to crawl out without the slightest injury. Mr. M'Donald lifted th« car sufficiently to allow of Dr. Sloan getting out, and then by their joint efforts they raised it further, so that Mrs. Sloan could be extricated. She was in an unconscious state, and was the worst suflerer by the accident, though her injuries are not regarded as serious. UNKNOWN MAN DROWNED. ; Ashburton, June 2. A man about sixty years of age, whoso itamo is unknown, was found drowned today in a pool of water in tho Ashburton River, near .the traffic bridge. SEAMAN LOST OVERBOARD. Nelson, June 2. A seaman named Harold Clements, residing at Nelson, was lost overboard from tlie steamer Wairoa during the voyage from Nelson to Takabi. last night. Clements was relieved at the wheel by the captain at a late hour, and went forward, not being seen afterwards.
