RAILWAY APPEAL BOARD.
SITTING AT NELSON. (Br T«lezraph.—Preas Association.) Nelson, June 2. A sitting of the Railway Appeal Board was held to-day, Mr. W. R. Haselden, S.M., presiding. Messrs. J. Gray and P. Gains represented tho first and second divisions respectively. Mr. M. Dennehy, of Wanganui, appeared for tho appellants, and Mr. Davidson for the Department.Wm. Dougan, stationmaster at Wakefield, 'A. Smart, stationmaster, Ifohatu, Jas. A. M'Caskey, clork, Port, and det>. G. Stewart, clerk. Nelson, appealed against being superseded in the classification list by a number of foremen and ticket inspectors. After hearing the evidence as to the appellants'/efficiency the Board held that the grievance was not substantial. The chairman said that the appellants ought to be satisfied with the statement repeatedly madoon behalf of the head of the Department that these accidental consequences of .increases of pay to men appointed coaching and goods 'foremen and ticket inspectors, would be avoided as opportunity arose for considering the claims of the appellants, and that they would rot suffer hardship and that their promotion in service would not bo retarded.

For the Apartment it was contended that the men appointed had special .qualification^.' 'The appellants were excellent officials and would receive promotion as opportunity offered. - Decision was reserved.
