ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.
MOTOR CYCLIST RUNS INTO CART. (By Telegraph.—Pr«w Association.) Stratford, June 1. As tho result of a collision on Saturday night between, a motor-cycle and a cart, Reginald Bell, a chauffeur, in tho employ of Mr. Newton. Kinf, lies in a critical condition in. the hospital, Bell was travelling without a light, and ran into a carrier's cart, being pierced by tho shaft on tho right side of the chest His condition this afternoon was worse, and was regarded as very serious. Bell, who was a very popular follow, had been married only two or three weeks ago. FALL DOWN A HOLD. Invercargill, June 1. Two waterside workers, A. F. Darwell and G. Browning, fell down the hold of tho stoamer Surrey on Saturday, and were admitted to the hospital. Darwell was badly bruised, and Browning had his anklo injured, but neither was seriously hurt. KILLED IN BOARDING A TRAIN. ThamoSi Jimo 1. A shocking fatality occurred at Thames station on the departure of a'special train to Waihi last night. 1 Thomas Dick, aged 31, a resident' of Waihi, attempted to board the moving train, and missed his tooting, and swung under a carriage, the wheels of which passed over him. Dick was horribly mangled, and the carriage had to bo jacked off tho body. Death was instantaneous. A CANTERBURY TRAGEDY. Christchurch, Juno 1. An inquest concerning the death of Thomas Barson, of Horoata, which occurred on Thursday, was held-, last night. Mary Barson, a daughter, deposed thnt she heard a conversation between her father and her sister. Her father said, "It is all up with me now," and presently lie went into a room where guns were kept, and though she heard him handling them, sho paid no attention to the incident. Later, eho heard the discharge of a gun, and saw that her father had shot himself. The coroner returned a verdict that death was caused by a gunshot wound, self-inflicted. PECULIAR FATALITY. FATAL SLIP IN BEDROOM. Auckland, May 31. Anthony Harwood, aged 27, boarfiinx in Alton Road, was found dead in his bedroom with his neck broken. Evidence givou at the inquest was to the effect that tho body was found on the floor in a peculiarly contracted kneeling position, with tho head bent right under it. The post-mortem showed that tho organs were all healthy, but the neck was dislocated, and tho face perfectly blue. Apparently Harwood had slipped when getting up in the night, and fell with his head right under him. The jury returned a verdict of accidental death.
